If you’re a gizmo freak, and you must have it all, the Apple iPod Touch 16gb is a must get. Here’s why: Apple has just offered you a second generation version that gives more value for your money. Simply put, it’s a great iPhone, but doesn’t come with “phone” part, but has everything else that you will get on an iPhone and for a very favourable price.
It’s fair to say that it’s very much like its predecessor – the 3.5 inch touch screen is still the same and many of the internal functions haven’t changed, but the Apple iPod Touch 16gb comes with several subtle improvements that differentiate it, especially to the iPod enthusiast. The most obvious is the new volume buttons on side of the touch screen, and even more notable, an external speaker to make sure that you get better sound quality. It weighs negligibly less than the predecessor (.15 of an ounce), but the looks are definitely different – it slimmer and feels easier to on the hand.
You also need to load iTunes V8 right away – without it, you cannot communicate with the touch.

- 1. You can use web based tools with the Apple iPod Touch 16gb because its internet enabled. You can connect to any wireless network. You’ll be able to surf and check mail.

Though it’s hard to point out just what Apple changed, it looks like a much sturdier phone than previous models.

You get much better audio output with the additional speaker. The speaker is conveniently located just where your fingers can reach it, although hard to locate on the touch. Don’t be looking to compare the sound quality with the iPhone though. If you want the best sound quality that Apple has to offer though, you’re better off looking at the iPhone.
· The battery time is also remarkably longer then in previous models – when it’s fully charged, you get a playback time of 36 hours. This is not bad considering how much it can do – most multi-functional touch screen phones have a battery life that’s less than impressive.
The Long and short of it…
The Apple iPod Touch 16gb like we said, it’s an iPhone minus the phone (and maybe great audio quality), but you are getting the best value you can for money really – you’ll be able to do everything that an iPhone can do except call. For an MP3 player that plays more than just music, you’re definitely getting yourself a great deal.

Design
At the risk of over-emphasising just how sleek it is, let’s talk a bit more about looks: next to the other iPod models, this one is by far a winner. Its much slimmer and the chrome rounded back will cup perfectly into your hand (great for gamers). What’s more, where the other iPods had a black lip all around the screen, with this one, the black lip extends from the chrome back cover so that you have a beautiful shiny edge. Let’s just say it’s an iPod being soft, but with powerful-as-ever features.
It has been created to accommodate dedicated volume keys on the side panel as well, but they will not interfere with your hold – they fit snugly into the body of the iPod.
The antennae in the Apple iPod Touch 8gb 2nd Generation is ellipse-shaped, not chunky and in the corner like on other iPods. The port for your headphones is also recessed, and will accept non-Apple headphones, definitely a plus should you lose or misplace the set that comes with it.
The screen? You get 3.5 inches of 320 by 480 pixels widescreen – definitely an excellent screen for gaming.
Features
You still get the Genius Mix application that has made iPods so popular; it will pre-arrange music play lists for you based on what it notices that you like a lot. It also comes loaded with Apple 2.1 software and you can get on directly to the App Store (older owners can only access these 2 pieces of software if they buy them from iTunes).
Compared with the original iPod, which had lots more black space and less icons, this one is different. You have lots of icons (App Store, Email, Weather, Notes, Maps, Stocks and more), and you can rearrange the order of the icons using a simple drag and drop. You can do the same to swap them around so that you get Quick Launch. With this one, Apple was definitely aiming for personalization which has been lacking in previous models.
Why is the Apple iPod Touch 8gb 2nd Generation so special?
The Apple iPod Touch 8gb 2nd Generation is also special because you can buy a few additional pieces of software and hardware and extend its usage to beyond gaming, music and email. If you spend a few dollars on a Nike and pedometer, you’ll get a shoe sensor. You can also get mic-enabled earphones that will. While some argue that this doesn’t seem fair because Apple is making users spend more money on bits and bobs to make their Apple iPod Touch 8gb 2nd Generation better, it can also be the reason why you can get this little iPod at such a great price – they give you what they could for less than $200 and then give you the choice to pick extras if you want.
Performance
Although there is no touch screen, it’s still a great interface, especially with Apps allowing you choose between so many applications. The audio, like all older iPods, can be said to be good –not great, but Apple promises to fix this with coming models. Compared to other phones in its category though, it’s still much better quality of sound.
The Maps feature is also a useful one for those who want to track their location, but you can switch it off if you feel you don’t need it. This conserves battery life as well.

There were gripes about the original iPod – it was pricey and just didn’t seem to perform very well for that price, even at 16gb. The Apple iPod Touch 8gb 2nd Generation seems to have addressed them, and done more because of the chic new design. It may not have GPS, 3G and a camera, but for that price, it’s definitely a great iPod to go for especially for those who aren’t heavy users!

Until the September 2010 release of the iPhone 4, the Apple iPod Touch 8gb was probably the only other Apple product in the (i) range that gave Steve Jobs a lot of headache. It’s hard to imagine why Apple would release a product that had poor storage, screen issues, a weak battery life and that was very expensive, but that’s precisely what they did. Putting it to rights however has borne a magnificent iPod, really the best that it could have been.
Rehabilitations included adding applications that had been deliberately left out that made it less than comparable to anything Apple. They added a $20 software update, which was closely followed by another one for $10 and started to sell the Apple iPod Touch 8gb’s gaming potential. They lowered the cost by as much as $100 dollars, and although initial buyers had gripes about all the new additions and improvements, Apple managed to attract a lot of new buyers.
They physically redesigned the Apple iPod Touch 8gb for a better feel; it was much handier and much lighter, added a chrome bezel and got a battery upgrade. Most importantly, the much sought after Nike+Apple software was thrown in at no extra cost, maybe a way to placate the frowning market.

1. It’s more than just hearing your music with this one; you’ll get to listen to unique mixes organized to suit your style by the updated software application, Genius Mixes. All you need to do is sync iPod to iTunes and Genius will go through your library to find songs that sound good together and use them to create mixes that you’ll enjoy. It comes with a new feature called Cover Flow as well. You only need to flip it to the side and you can see your music by album art. A tap on the album art will reveal a track list.
2. You can literally shake it to shuffle – the Shake to Shuffle feature will move to a different song if you turn it on and give your Apple iPod Touch 32gb 3rd Generation a little shake.
3. You can transfer your music and videos from your Mac and the other way back to your iPod by simply connecting the 2 using a cable -0 every time there is an update on either, they sync when they meet.
4. It has no Bluetooth cables. It uses the 3.1 software so all you need are Bluetooth headphones. That means that you don’t have to carry it everywhere – you can leave it in the next room and still listen to music.
5. It understands voice commands. You can ask for a song by simply speaking into it. You can ask it what song is playing and it will tell you. You can ask it to shuffle, pause or repeat a song and you’ll get just that.
6. We mentioned that Apple upped the memory; n0w you can store up to 90,000 photos on the Apple iPod Touch 32gb 3rd Generation and flick through them using the touch screen. You can create slideshows out of your photos, complete with transitions and music.
7. It comes Safari enabled. Safari is the most powerful browser yo0u can get on a portable device and all you need is a wi-fi connection to be able to see your browser as you would on your phone.
8. You’ll get a voice recorder to record your memos or even short important meetings. You only have to tap a button to play them back.
9. The calculator is also pretty cool – when you hold the phone in portrait, it will be an ordinary calculator. Flip it to horizontal and you get a scientific calculator.
10. Finally, for all those who may be looking for iPods that allow parental controls, this one comes loaded for that. You can control and music, video or content that you don’t want children to see and since only you will have the password, you’re pretty much sure it’s safe.

Apple iPod Touch 32gb 3rd Generation comes loaded with lots and lots of features, although there are complaints that it’s very similar to the 2nd Generation modes; you almost can’t tell the apart.
